Gear Heads like us love seeing and hearing about the bikes the pros are riding. At Higher Gear, we’re proud to say you don’t have to fly to France to see the bikes. Several of the bikes being ridden by the pros in this year’s Tour are in our shop.
Specialized and SCOTT both have their bikes at the 2012 Tour de France. In fact, multiple teams are on Specialized, including the Astana Pro Team, Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank and Omega Pharma Quick Step. The Tour’s first ever Australian national team, Orica GreenEDGE, is on SCOTT. These teams are riding their Specialized and SCOTT bikes towards stage wins and podium finishes and aspiring to capture the yellow, green, white or polka dot jerseys.
The aero road frame is becoming all the rage in road racing from the Tour de France to local races. Still light, stiff and responsive as the traditional round frame, the aero frame on the SCOTT Foil offers huge aerodynamic advantages over its predecessors. Look for this bike being ridden by Austailia’s GreenEDGE team in the 2012 Tour de France.
Look for Michael Morkov riding this bike with the Saxo Bank – Tinkoff Bank team. Morkov, a Danish national TT champion demonstrated his breakaway speed in the mountains in the first of the 2012 Tour. Morkov held on to the polka dot jersey through Stage 6 and earned the ‘Most Aggressive Rider’ award in Stage 3 – all while riding the Specialized Venge.
