Higher Gear’s own Joy Sherrick just happened to stumble on a race while visiting Arizona this past weekend. What’s more, she got to witness the dominance of the Specialized-Lululemon team. Nice work, ladies!
Four women from the Specialized-Lululemon professional road team raced this past weekend in the event’s 22nd year. Among them were Evelyn Stevens, an Olympian who placed 24th in the women’s road race in the 2012 Summer Olympics.
The ladies of Specialized-Lululemon dominated the three days of racing from the start. They swept the podium at the time-trial, Stevens and two of her teammates, Tayler Wiles and Carmen Small, with more than a 30 second lead over their competitors.
At the road race the following day, Karol-Anne Canuel captured the win. Small and Stevens took second and third, respectively. Based on their times for the first two days, Evelyn Stevens, Carmen Small and Tayler Wiles were the top three contenders for overall GC going into Sunday’s criterium.
At Sunday’s race in downtown Phoenix, Carmen Small took first and Evelyn Stevens, third. The overall GC podium, after the three days of racing, was all Specialized-Lululemon. Stevens had the best time for the three days combined. Small was ten seconds behind and Wiles was 44 seconds behind Small. Canuel’s win in the road race secured her spot as sixth overall for the weekend.
Nice work, ladies! Oh, and sweet rides!
We’re looking forward to watching the Specialized-Lululemon team dominate at the Tour de France’s La Course this year.
