After eight great years, with many successes and far more fun times, we are closing Higher Gear at the end of this calendar year. We celebrate all that we accomplished in our time with Higher Gear and bring reflection and, most of all, gratitude to our decision.
When we took over Higher Gear in 2010, we had a clear idea of what we wanted to achieve with the business. We look back on the past eight years with a great sense of accomplishment, having achieved everything we set out to attain and much more. Higher Gear has had a positive impact in the local communities – including the many health benefits of cycling, the new riders we have introduced to the sport and the development of cycling enthusiasts. For many, Higher Gear has become a cornerstone in the local community as well as a meeting place for new friends.
We could not be more grateful to all of the coworkers and customers we have had the pleasure to interact with throughout our years of owning and running Higher Gear. We worked very hard to create a community out of our business and there are so many examples of how we achieved just that.
We have many folks to thank for joining us on this eight-year journey. We appreciate the coworkers who have helped us meet the exacting needs of our customers, our vendor partners who trusted us to bring some of the best brands in cycling to market, our business partners who gave the support all small businesses require and, most of all, our customers.
Above all, we relish and thank our customers. We appreciate the people whose lives we’ve had the opportunity to impact through cycling and camaraderie. Some of our customers discovered a healthier lifestyle. Some tested their comfort zones. Many made life-long friendships.
These past eight years, we have valued seeing the friendly faces on our Saturday morning rides and at 6am sessions in the Computrainer studio. We have enjoyed hosting the weekly rides and clinics to make the sport more approachable to women. We have enjoyed introducing the local community to the outrageous sport of cyclocross. None of us will ever forget the connection we have made with World Bicycle Relief.
Our hearts have warmed with every child who left with a huge smile after receiving their first bike – and with every adult who left with the same smile after returning to the sport. We have gained great satisfaction from every enthusiast who insisted on having their bike serviced only at Higher Gear.
We have our families, too, to thank. Every part of our families have participated in the business. From volunteering at the cyclocross races to helping ring up customers at the counter, from leading group rides to helping do the administrative work of the business. Every corner of our families have contributed to making Higher Gear successful.
As for the details, the shop will remain open through the end of December. Until then, we are hosting a store closing sale and discounting all remaining bikes and merchandise. We also encourage you to get your bikes in for a last tune-up, before our coworkers go on to their next chapters, and we invite all of you to stop in and share the stories of how Higher Gear has had a positive impact on your life.
