Bike to Work Week Events in Chicago

It’s Bike to Work Week, June 9th – 15th!

 

The meteorologists are predicting good cycling weather all week. It’s a perfect week to strap on your helmet and celebrate the joys of commuting by bike! To make an already awesome week better, Bike Chicago and the Active Transport Alliance have fun (free) events planned to celebrate Bike to Work Week. Here are just a sampling of events going on in the area this week:

 

Bike Shorts

Monday, June 11th, 6:00pm
Bike Chicago has teamed up with Bicycle Film Festival Chicago to bring a special screening of “Bike Shorts” at Goose Island. Admission is free.

Bike Pit Stop

Tuesday, June 12 from 6:30-8:00am
To promote and encourage resident participation in the Bike to Work Week, the Active Transportation Alliance and the Wilmette Bicycle Task Force will be holding a Bike Pit Stop.

Bike Chicago Feature Film at Millennium Park

Tuesday, June 12th, Dusk
In honor of bike week, the Feature Film at Millennium Park will be Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. This 1985 comedy film follows Pee-wee Herman as he embarks on a nation-wide quest to rescue his beloved, stolen bike. Before the movie, the Bike Chicago PSA contest entries will be shown on the big screen.

Streets for Cycling Lecture

Wednesday, June 13th, 12:00pm
Learn about the Chicago Department of Transportation’s exciting plans to encourage biking in Chicago in 2012.

Loop Bike Tour

Thursday, June 14th, 6:30pm
A free 2-hour mini-bike tour of the Loop led by Lee Diamond of Chicago Neighborhood Bike Tours. Pre-registration is required. Ride limited to 150 participants.

Bike to Work Rally

Friday, June 15th, 7:30am
Celebrate Chicago’s commitment to being the best big city for bicycling. Join more than a thousand fellow cyclists on Daley Plaza for music, a free t-shirt, breakfast, Sierra Mist Natural Bike Valet and much more. The winner of the Bike Chicago PSA contest will be announced.

Bike Commuter Challenge

June 9th – June 15th
Celebrate Chicago Bike to Work Week by signing up for the Bike Commuter Challenge. Just sign up, ride and log your commutes all week. You and your company compete with other companies of a similar size and category. A company wins if it has the highest percentage of employees logging at least one bike commute to work in its category.
