After a disappointing finish (36th out of 50) at the Gapers Block Criterium, put on by Half Acre on March 31st, I thought, ‘It’s fun being back on the bike, however, I have a lot still to learn.” Unsatisfied my cornering, I asked around for advice. I began putting in extra time in the saddle to practice this newly developing skill.
Coming into xXx Racing’s Lincoln Park Criterium on Saturday, April 12th, I thought, “I may be beat today, but it will not be due to poor cornering.” The wind proved to be a factor, and the back end of the course – with its 180º turn – was the demise of many riders. Even still, the lakefront park was a perfect venue for a criterium. I was pleased with my finish, coming in 43rd, especially because I did not drop positions in the corners.
I have identified where I need practice, and I now have my eyes set on the Monsters of the Midway Criterium, at the University of Chicago, this Saturday, May 10th. If you don’t have plans Saturday, come out and cheer me on!
And check back next week – for my Monsters race report!
