Whether you’re a track racer, a cycling junkie, newly introduced to the sport of track racing at the 2012 Summer Olympics or completely new to track racing, you’ll want to head to the Northbrook Velodrome this Thursday.

Chicago Chiropractic and Higher Gear are co-sponsoring the 2012 Points Race State Championship.

Track Cycling 201: the points race is one where points are awarded every  five or so laps of a predetermined overall number of laps. The top four riders on the ‘points lap’ receive points. The winner is the one with the most total points in the end. Both Chicago Chiropractic and Higher Gear will be sponsoring premes (intermediate sprints within a race, usually offering a prize and/or points) that night. It’s sure to be an exciting night of racing.

The velodrome is very newcomer friendly. The track emcees do a great job of explaining the rules and what’s going on during a given race. In between races, you’ll enjoy the spectacular scenery of the open air track, watching the sun set and the moon rise. For added color, our Higher Gear tent will livening up the infield.

Relish one of the last evenings of summer. Enjoy the fresh air. Give in to the excitement of the races.
