CompuTrainer Studio Information and Guidelines:

  • Studio is first-come-first-served. Reservations will be taken ONLINE. Schedule will be available two weeks in advance. The registration site is optimized for mobile use, making it easy to register from your smart phone.
  • Please make sure your bike is free of mud, snow and salt.
  • You will need a trainer skewer for your rear wheel. If you don’t have one, you can purchase one at Higher Gear, where we can install on it on your bike during set up for first ride (allow extra time to check in).
  • Frequent trainer riders often find the tread on their rear wheel will wear down over time. Purchase a (rear) trainer tire for indoor riding and save your outdoor tire for spring. Trainer tires are available to purchase from Higher Gear online and in store. Please call to book an appointment to switch out your rear tire for a trainer tire.
  • Bring a towel, water bottle and nutrition for your workout.
  • You must cancel a minimum of an hour before session time to avoid being charged for session. There will be no reimbursement for missed classes.
  • 5 times a week, we are offering Structured Workouts of interval training (rather than our Course of the Week): Tuesdays at 6:00am and 9:15am; Thursdays at 4:30pm and 6:15pm; and Sundays at 11:00am. Using your FTP, we can set you up for your Structured Workout. If you haven’t yet performed an FTP test, we can administer that in our Studio. Contact Beccy to schedule your test.
  • If you do not know your FTP for Structured Workout sessions, please contact the shop for details on testing. If you already know your FTP, we can enter it in the computer for you.
  • Bike storage includes storage of your bicycle only. It does not include storage of shoes or other gear.
  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early to allow time for setup, calibration and warm-up.
  • It’s your responsibility to set up and remove your own bike.
  • Wipe down your area after working out.
  • Rides start PROMPTLY at the scheduled start time, so if you arrive late, ride in “ERG” (non-recorded) mode.
  • Do not leave your bike behind unless you have signed up for monthly storage.
  • Do not leave your shoes, nutrition or other gear behind. Items left behind will be put in lost and found at the end of the day. After seven (7) days, lost and found items will be donated or disposed.

Schedule to Ride With Us

What if I have to cancel? Instructions for cancelling will be available on the registration site. Please note: if you don’t cancel in advance, you will be charged for the session.

What courses do we ride? Most of the weekly rides are 75-minute Interval and Strength building workouts. Longer course rides take place on the weekend and at other designated times. We change the workouts each week. We are equipped with the most up-to-date courses by RacerMate One.

What do I need to bring?

  • Your road bike, with training skewer for the rear wheel.
For the first time that is not necessary, but the trainer will destroy your tire with repeated use.
  • Bring a towel as you will sweat a lot.
  • Hydration and nutrition (make that you have eaten something 30-45minutes before riding as this is a high intensity workout).
  • Don’t forget your cycling shoes!

What do I wear? Wear bike shorts, a workout shirt, bike socks and cycling shoes.

What happens during a session? The first 15minutes are used to set up, warm-up and calibrate. You set up your bike on the trainer (we will help you), pedal for 5-10 minutes and then calibrate to adjust the starting pressure on your back tire. Workouts start with this warm-up and will end with a cool-down, all as part of the workout. If you arrive after the warm-up, you may have to ride alone and without your workout being recorded.  We have two viewing screens – one that displays the workout and your performance and the other, an optional movie or music.

Some things to remember:

  • Do not leave your bike behind unless you have signed up for monthly storage.
  • Do not leave your running shoes, nutrition or other gear behind. Items left behind will be put in lost and found at the end of the day. After 7 days, lost and found items will be donated or disposed.
  • Wipe down your area after working out.

Can I reserve time for a small group ride or event?  You can book the space for your group of 4 or more. You can also host an event with a ride followed by a social. For more information, email beccy@highergearchicago.com to reserve a block of time for your group.
