Claire Geiger, Evanston, IL – 9th in her age group at KONA 2011
Where to begin? First and foremost, THANK YOU! For all your support this year. It has been an amazing experience and journey. I honestly couldn’t have done it without your support. I am so proud to be a part of the Higher Gear team and work with you all. I couldn’t have asked for a better shop to work with, nicer people to see on a regular basis, or a more knowledgeable staff than you have. So again thank you.
Kona was incredible. One of the most memorable experiences of my life. I had an awesome race. I felt great out there and mostly, enjoyed every minute (mostly every minute
My nerves were high and low the week leading up to the race but on the morning of, I was ready to go and more confidant than ever, knowing I had earned my spot to be out there and that it was a huge honor to be racing at one of the most coveted races in the world, along side the best athletes in the world. It was a pretty cool feeling to be a part of.
The day was perfect. I had a good swim. I was already thinking about getting on my bike half way through. I loved the bike ride, was happy and smiling the whole time, and saw some of the best scenery imaginable. It was like riding on the moon, with the ocean on one side and the lava craters on the other side. And I had my best marathon yet. I took over 10 minutes off my time, ran strong, and finished healthy. I was so happy with a 9th place finish and my day overall. Top 10 in the world in my age group is an awesome feeling.
If you want to read more about the race, you can read the report from my blog – the Geiger Counter.
The best part is that I know I have even more in me. I’m already excited about my next Ironman and trying to qualify for Kona again. Again, I appreciate everything you’ve done for me and I hope we can continue to work together in the future.
Kindly,
Claire Geiger (Claire trains with Craig Strong at Precision Multisport)
PS. I just went for my first ‘cross’ ride last night with Fred and some buddies. It was awesome. So different from what I know but I had a blast. Fred is already trying to talk me into a cross bike. Yikes.
Here’s a comment posted on our Facebook page :
“Fred- now I know you think I’m a bike-o-chondriac. There’s something wrong with my pedals…”
A rock in one cleat and a loose cleat on the other shoe.
Honestly, I really did look. Thanks for being so generous and not making fun of me.” – Glenna
